Tyler, Texas (September 8, 2022) — UT Health Tyler’s Digestive Disease Center now offers patients receiving a colonoscopy an enhanced screening using the GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy module. The GI Genius™ module uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help doctors detect polyps – a powerful new ally in the fight against colon cancer.
The GI Genius™ module uses advanced artificial intelligence software to highlight suspicious polyps with a real-time visual marker – serving as the gastroenterologist’s ever-vigilant second observer with a sensitivity rate per lesion of 100%. Studies have shown that AI-assisted colonoscopy can increase the polyp detection rate, and every 1% increase in the adenoma detection rate reduces the risk of colorectal cancer by 3%. Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer diagnosed in the United States, with nearly 150,000 new cases each year.
UT Health Tyler’s Digestive Disease Center is focused on meeting the medical needs of the community by providing its expert staff with the latest technologies and procedures. The GI Genius™ module is the first and only AI colon polyp detection system in the United States, and UT Health Tyler is proud to be the first facility in the region to offer colonoscopy using this technology to our patients.
